Chemical Security Education Program among Selected ASEAN Universities in collaboration with National Security Policy Institute, University of New Mexico and Global Chemical and Biological Security Group at Sandia National Laboratories, US.

Dr. Hooi-Ling Lee is an Associate Professor and researcher at the School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) since 2012. She holds a Ph.D. (Surface Science) degree from Dublin City University (DCU) in the Republic of Ireland. Dr. Lee focuses her research on nanotechnology for wastewater treatment and drug delivery system applications. Dr. Lee is the recipient of the 2021-2022 US Fulbright-ASEAN Visiting Scholar from Malaysia. She has her Fulbright research attachment at the Global and National Security Policy Institute, University of New Mexico (UNM), hosted by Dr. Emile Nakhleh on Chemical Security Education topic. The work will be in collaboration with the Global Chemical and Biological Security Group at Sandia National Laboratories, ABQ.  Besides, she is also an Endeavour Research Fellow awarded by the Australian Government in 2018.

Dr. Lee is a founding member and served as the first female Chair of the ACS Malaysia International Chapter (2018-2020) as well as a co-advisor for the USM ACS Student Chapter. She is currently a Member of the ACS Committee on International Activities (IAC). Additionally, she is a Chartered Chemist by the Royal Society of Chemistry and a senior contributor of the Public Outreach Working Group for the International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN). Besides, she is a Hon. Member of the Young Scientists Network-Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) and a Fellow in the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM).

In addition, I am very grateful to work with a reputable team from the Global Chemical and Biological Security Group at Sandia National Laboratories, ABQ. I hope this Fulbright project will develop into a more sustainable and impactful outcome that could benefit students on the importance of chemical security awareness in Malaysia and generally, in the ASEAN region in the future. I wish to thank UNM staff especially Dean Eric Lau for the immerse support and assistance throughout my stay at UNM”.
